WCIG’s massive AccessAbility Day for 2018

04 Dec 2018 - 20 employers for 20 participants – WCIG’s massive AccessAbility Day for 2018

On Thursday 29 November at the Plaza Tavern in Werribee, WCIG connected with BNI Growth Partners Wyndham to kick off a huge AccessAbility Day. 20 employers took on 20 participants from WCIG’s Werribee Disability Employment Services and local students from Manor Lakes College to spend a day in their workplaces.

The participants matched up with their employers bright and early from 8:30am and then headed off to spend a day in their respective industries. WCIG was thrilled to have employers from 30 industries including real estate, printing, personal training, mortgage broking, retail, bookkeeping, accounting, conveyancing, gardening, finance, graphic design, photography, property management and more.

Participants and employers greatly enjoyed the day; Jack who spent the day with Joseph from Flatpackology remarked how he “had an amazing time” and thanked both WCIG and Flatpackology for the opportunity. Fantastically, Joseph’s feedback was equally glowing; “He was fantastic and I think I have a job opportunity for him!”

Michelle from Ones&Twos Plumbing greatly enjoyed the company of her participant, Rhiannon; “What a polite young lady, I enjoyed working with her.” Nick from Simple Property Investments found that “… it was an eye opener and [I] really loved it.” And Nicole from accounting business Negotiis thought “What a beautiful experience…” it was working with her participant, and that she was “happy to supply a reference.”

AccessAbility Day in 2018 ran from 26 – 30 November across the country. AccessAbility Day is an Australian Government initiative that allows employers to connect with jobseekers currently participating in Disability Employment Services (DES). The main aim of the initiative is to give jobseekers an opportunity to try out a certain workplace and to encourage employers to consider employing someone living with disability.

WCIG was pleased to have had such a momentous uptake from the local Wyndham community, from our DES participants and a great network of businesses in the area.
