WCIG's 8th Annual Board Scholarships - 2016

14 Nov 2016 - WCIG's annual Board Scholarships were again a massive success in 2016 with the eighth scholarship event hosted right by the water at the Williamstown Yacht Club on
12 Scholarships were awarded this year to deserving participants across all programs; including Disability Employment Services, Youth Services' Western Springboard program, Social Enterprise Group and WCIG Training Services.

The Board Scholarships reward the efforts of nominated participants who go above and beyond in attempting to make positive changes in their lives. These Scholarships aim to provide an extension of forms of assistance that aren't covered under existing funding or brokerage arrangements within each program.

This event saw Scholarships awarded ranging from computer equipment to assist young people with further study and skill development, to vehicle repairs and other assistance contributing to learning new skills and further study.

A special guest speaker Sharon Mamo, founder of Creating New Pathways, shared the story of her journey. A former participant in WCIG's Disability Employment Services, Sharon emerged from very troubled circumstances with complex barriers and health issues. Sharon praised her WCIG Employment Consultant for sticking by her and advocating for her around very serious and challenging barriers. Sharon's journey was a precious insight to the potential of every individual, no matter their personal barriers.

WCIG congratulates all 2016 Scholarship recipients and wishes them all the best in their futures.
