A Day in the Life - Annalisa Cannizzaro

10 Dec 2018 - Our team makes everything we do possible. Find out a little bit more about how and why we do what we do. Introducing Annalisa!

Where is your home base at WCIG?

I split my time between Werribee, Geelong and Corio but I'm known to be all over the West of Melbourne and beyond!

What do you do here?

I'm a Community Engagement Specialist. It involves a lot of chatting to everyone I can, making connections and presenting the good work WCIG does to lots of community groups, parents and employers.

I'm also involved with various local networks such as Youth Network in Wyndham, Disability Network in Wyndham as well as working groups for various events and engagements across the West. Networking is something I'm passionate about.

What is your favourite thing about working for WCIG?

The amazing people I meet! The relationships I forge with people are very humbling. I also work with an amazing and supportive team. We share the workload and try to go above and beyond to assist as many members of the community as we can.

One thing that might surprise someone to know about what you do?

All the travelling I do! An average week can notch up anywhere between 400km-1,000km hopping between appointments, catchups, events and meeting with people interested in finding out more about how we might assist them.

What brought you to doing what you do at WCIG?

I do what I do because I love networking and love the varied work I'm involved in at any given time.

An average day for me could mean I start off with a morning meeting with a 17 year old student looking for assistance with moving onto their next life chapter, then off to a bustling local network meeting, then a presentation to a group of mums at a kindergarten about WCIG and then rounding it out with a catchup with an employer.

(It's always nice to put my feet up at the end of the day!)

If there was one thing you could change about society, what would it be?

Zero unemployment. No matter what age you are, what special needs you have or where you live; there would be an abundance of work available!

Proudest achievement so far?

One of our participants was successfully nominated for a Board Scholarship which will fund further education in her new career and another young person we have been working with has started receiving commissions for his artwork!
