National Green Jobs Corps
The National Green Jobs Corps program equips young people aged 17-24 with skills for life. With a focus on training to fill employment opportunities in emerging green and climate change related industries, this comprehensive 26 week long program combines work experience and skill development with accredited training.
Facilitated by WCIG and funded by the Commonwealth Government, the National Green Jobs Corps program is a hands-on training program designed to engage young people who have previously struggled to engage with and remain in education and training.
Information for referring agencies
National Green Jobs Corps is a great pathway, not only for your clients interested in horticulture and gardening, also for clients who are interested in pursuing a career in a trade.
The hands on nature of the program gives participants the opportunity to gain Construction Card (OH&S White Card) training and experience using a wide range of power tools and equipment - along with experience working as part of a team.
As part of the program we invite employers from different industries to speak to the participants. Many of these employers go on to offer our NGJC participants job opportunities including apprenticeships and full time work.
Unfortunately, we can no longer take referrals for NGJC, however, if you would like further information about the program or to visit our site before we complete the program in April, please contact Jodie Aickin 03 9689 3437.
Aldrin cultivates a new career with the NGJC
Like many young people Aldrin was unsure of what career path he would pursue after completing Secondary School. After a brief stint as a personal trainer he discovered that the fitness industry was not for him and was then at a loss as to what to do next. Keen to try something new, Aldrin was visiting his local service provider when he noticed an advertisement calling for enrolments in the National Green Jobs Corps. He enrolled that same day and hasn’t looked back since. Upon completion of the program Aldrin had a renewed enthusiasm for training and enrolled in a Certificate lll in Business Administration with WCIG. So impressed by his ability to manage projects he is now working with WCIG as a Work Experience Supervisor, assisting other young people like himself to discover their ideal vocation.
