Financial Controller

About WCIG

Westgate Community Initiatives Group Inc. (WCIG) is a community-based not for profit organisation, committed to making practical responses to unemployment in the western region of Melbourne and Geelong. WCIG’s Mission Statement is “Creating Partnerships for Employment”. We work in partnership with the community, service users and government.

 

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Financial Controller provides overall leadership and direction to the organisation’s Finance team. The Finance team consists of 3 members: an Accountant, an Assistant Accountant and a Payroll/Accounts Officer. Your hands on approach will assist us, as we currently implement new procedures to streamline our processes and improve efficiency.

You will be a driven CA/CPA qualified Accountant with a strong financial accounting background. Your prior experience in a similar role assist you in leading the Finance team to perform at the highest standard. You will ensure the team complies and adheres to internal policies and procedures and financial governance requirements, while also ensuring political, economic, environmental, technological and social factors are accounted for.

Your excellent communication skills will see you building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and representing the Finance team in meetings. Your leadership skills will see you developing and strengthening the team to retain talent. Your exceptional attention to detail and problem solving skills will ensure you succeed in this position.

Some of the Financial Controller’s key duties include:

  • Providing financial advice and support to the CEO to assist in operational decision making
  • Support staff across the organisation
  • Presenting at Board meetings to provide financial insights and analysis on business performance
  • Facilitating the development and implementation of financial systems and software to enhance business operations and strategies
  • Preparing financial reports, budgets and forecasting
  • Overseeing external audits
